2017 – 2018

On November 21, 2017, LWVUV presented a forum on Religious and Cultural Diversity with special guest speakers Akhilesh Jwawar from Kolkata, India and Refina Puspita from Indonesia. Amy Nash from Roseburg also spoke about her experiences as an AFS student in Turkey a few years ago. Here are a few photos from that occasion.

2016 – 2017

On April 18, 2017 LWV Umpqua Valley introduced Charles Young, Umpqua Community College history and government professor, spoke knowledgeably and passionately about our country’s beginnings and the formation of our governmental system with emphasis on the Electoral College and what the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact would accomplish. Here are a few photos.

On March 21, 2017, Shannon Applegate, local historian, author, lecturer, talks about the Yoncalla women who overthrew the City Council in 1920. They ran and won. The men had botched the job!

Big thanks to Shannon for sharing the very interesting history of our county and nation with us.
